In 2008, after 42 years as advertisement director at the Eastbourne Gazette and Herald newspapers, Nigel took early retirement to pursue his lifelong ambition to open an art gallery.
He has painted continuously since leaving Eastbourne College of Art and Design in 1966. His amazing art gallery, which has two floors, is located in Compton Street behind the Grand Hotel.
Over the years Nigel has been chairman of the Eastbourne Marketing Group, which started Eastbourne’s airshow “Airbourne”, president of the Eastbourne and District Industrial Association for three years, a director of the Eastbourne and District Managing Agency (EDMA), a director of the Eastbourne and District Enterprise Agency (EDEAL) and a director of the Eastbourne Business Partnership.
And as a governor of Eastbourne Sixth form College, he instigated the name change to Park College.
Nigel wrote the music score and choreographed the opening of the Children’s Royal Variety Performance which was televised to 11 million viewers from Her Majesty’s Theatre in 1993 and was elected a fellow of The Royal Society of Arts in 1994.

The News Hair & Beauty Awards with official radio partner Wave 105.2FM are dedicated to recognising excellence achieved by salons and individuals within this industry across the Portsmouthand Southern Hampshire area.

Following on from the success of last years awards, the second News Hair & Beauty Awards will launch in December with readers being encouraged to nominate their favourite salon, hairdresser or therapist, culminating at The Marriott Hotel on Sunday 27^th May where those successful candidates will be revealed.

Along with extensive press coverage both in-print and online and social networking sites these opportunities will promote companies in association with the awards to all our entrants, voters and loyal readers.

Judging the awards

This is to be undertaken  by a panel of five judges. Category sponsors will have the opportunity to be on the judging panel. The judging will be scheduled for early April 2012.

Winners will be awarded a trophy featuring your logo and will get the rights to use The News Hair & Beauty Awards logo

More than 200 families came along to meet the area’s largest ever collection of health professionals, childcare experts and local businesses and took part in the free music and activity sessions.    

We’re already planning next year’s Show which will take place in June 2012 again in the Drill Hall, Horsham.and will be extended to include exhibitors offering advice, services and products for all the family – from Pregnancy to Secondary School 

Visitor Information 

OPENING TIMES The Baby & Toddler Show is open between 11.00am and 3.00pm.

VENUE LOCATION The Drill Hall is in Denne Road, Horsham.  The postcode is RH12 1JF and the website is www.drillhall.net.  The venue belongs to Horsham District Council.  There are steps to the front of the hall and an easy access ramp to the right of the building.

FREE PARKING is available in theDenne Road and Piries Place Car Parks near to the Drill Hall and other city centre car parks which offer free parking on Sundays.  The venue is within easy walking distance of Swan Walk Shopping Centre and the many restaurants inEast Street.

ADMISSION is £2 for adults and over 16s. Children and Senior Citizens are admitted free of charge.  All children under sixteen must be accompanied by an adult and remain supervised during their visit.  An Event Guide including a list of exhibitors will be provided on entry. 

CHILDRENS’ ENTERTAINMENT is on offer in two rooms which lead off the main hall.  The MUSIC ROOM will offer a range of free sessions linked to singing, musical instruments and signing.  The ACTIVITY ROOM will feature activities including sports, baby yoga and baby sensory. While all entertainment and activities are free of charge, we do ask that you supervise your children at all times including while they are watching or taking part in activities. 

FOOD AND DRINK Our Café will be selling tea, coffee and soft drinks.  Please speak to our Café staff if you need information on ingredients or allergies.  Free wifi will be available in the Café area. Please don’t bring any hot drinks outside of the Café area.

OUR EXHIBITORS are mainly smaller independent businesses from Horsham and the surrounding area.  They have been carefully selected to showcase the widest possible range of products and services aimed specifically at families and young children. Many will have special show offers and all will be happy to offer friendly and helpful advice and contacts.

LOST CHILDREN Should you and your child become separated during your visit, please go straight to the Reception Desk at the entrance where our staff will be able to help.  There is a PA system at the venue and Student Helpers will be available to help reunite you with your child. 

PUSHCHAIRS may be taken into the hall or left at your own risk at the Show Reception. 

BABY CHANGING FACILITIES are available in the disabled toilets.

HEALTH & SAFETY Our exhibitors and the Drill Hall staff have taken great care to ensure that the Baby & Toddler Show is a safe environment for families.  Please help us by keeping your children with you at all times and by ensuring children don’t run around and risk injury.

Who can enter?
Companies and/ or individuals from any business sector, of any size and any age can enter. Companies compete on a level playing field.

Do we have to be a local business?
Yes. The East Sussex Women in Business Awards are for businesses or business women located in Hastings, St Leonards, Battle, Rye, Ore, 1066 Country, Rother, Pevensey and Westham, Eastbourne, Polegate, Hailsham or Seaford. Businesses located outside these areas will not be considered.

Is entry dependent on size and turnover of company?
Entries are welcomed from companies of any size. There is no restriction in terms of turnover or number of employees.

How do we submit our application?
Download an application form from the categories page and follow the instructions.

What criteria need to be met?
There are separate criteria for each of the categories and these appear on the entry form. However fundamental principles that apply to each award include ethics, success and innovation.

When is the deadline for applications?
Applications need to be submitted to the judging panel by September 5, 2011
Shortlisted applicants will be notified shortly thereafter. The judges decision is final.

How long do we need to have been trading?
The duration of trading is not a critical factor to being eligible for an award, provided the application criteria are met. There is however the category New Business of the Year Award, which may be more appropriate for businesses that have started trading from September 2010.

Can we get feedback if we are unsuccessful?
Due to the number of entrants, feedback will not be available on an individual basis.

Why should we enter?
Entry in to the East Sussex Women in Business Awards 2011 will allow you both to examine your business performance as it stands and also to benchmark your performance against other companies. The Awards also provide significant PR opportunities for the finalists and winners.

Conditions of Acceptance of Stand Orders

1    LICENCE TO EXHIBIT. Licences to exhibit at SXN shows and exhibitions are granted at the absolute discretion of JP South Events (hereinafter referred to as “the organisers”). The organisers reserve the right to decline or cancel a stand order without giving any reason.

2    STAND CONSTRUCTION. All stands will be constructed by the official stand contractors appointed by the organisers. On no account may nails, screws, etc. be used on the stand. Any damage will be the responsibility of the exhibitor and any damage will be charged accordingly.

3    DAMAGE. If any damage or injury shall be caused or occasioned by the exhibitor or his representatives on any person, or to the venue, or its contents whether of like nature or not, for which the organisers would be liable however it may be caused, the exhibitor shall indemnify the organisers and their contractors and hold them harmless against any action, expense or claim on account of any such damage or injury.

4    COMPLETION OF EXHIBITS. All stands and their exhibits must be completed by the opening time on the first day of the exhibition and must be in good order and well displayed during the hours the exhibition is open.

5    DISMANTLING OF EXHIBITS. Exhibits must not be removed and displays must not be dismantled before the closing time on the last day of the exhibition. All exhibits and display material must be removed within two hours of the official closing time of the exhibition.

6    PROHIBITION OF TRANSFER. Exhibitors may not assign, sub-let or grant licences in respect of the whole or any part of the space allotted to them without the written permission of the organisers.

7    FIRE RISKS AND SAFETY. Exhibitors will adhere to all fire and safety regulations which affect the exhibition. Exhibitors’ materials must be kept clear of aisles and fire exits.

8    PROTECTION OF EXHIBITS. All exhibits must be properly protected so as to avoid any danger to any person visiting or taking part in the exhibition. The organisers shall be indemnified by the exhibitor against any claim or action on account of any injury or damage being caused by any exhibit to any person whatsoever. All storage and packing materials must be removed from the exhibition and will be the responsibility of the exhibitor.

9    INSURANCE LIABILITY. Neither the organisers nor the hall owners will be responsible for the safety of any exhibit or property of any exhibitor or any person, for the loss or damage of, or destruction to same by theft or fire or any other cause whatsoever, or for any loss or damage sustained by the exhibitor by reason of any defect in the building caused by fire, storm, tempest, lightning, national emergency, war, labour disputes, strikes, explosion, etc. or any cause not within the control of the organisers.

10  ELECTRICAL FITTINGS AND SUPPLIES. Any additional requirements for lighting, power points or sockets, etc. must be carried out by the organisers’ official electrical contractors.

11  UNOCCUPIED SPACE. Where space applied for and granted is not occupied or used by the exhibitor for any reason whatsoever, there will be no refund of payment.

12  REVISION OF LAYOUT. Should it become necessary to revise the layout of the exhibition for any reason, the organisers reserve the right to transfer an exhibitor to an alternative site.

13  POSTPONEMENT OR ABANDONMENT. In no event shall the exhibitor have any claim of any kind against the organisers or the hall owners in respect of any loss or damage consequential upon the prevention, postponement or abandonment of the exhibition, by reason of the happenings of any of the events referred to in rule 9 or of the exhibition building becoming wholly or partially unavailable for the holding of the exhibition for reasons beyond the organisers’ control. The organisers shall be entitled to retain such part of all sums paid by the exhibitors as the organisers consider necessary. If in the opinion of the organisers rearrangement or postponement of the period of the exhibition or by substitution of another hall, or building, or any other reasonable manner, the exhibition can be carried out, the contract for space shall be binding upon the parties, except as to the size and position of the stands, as to which any modification, substitution, or rearrangement they consider necessary shall be determined by the organisers.  If the hall becomes unavailable through any of the cases specified in paragraph 9 during the running of the exhibition no return of any monies paid or due by the exhibitor to the organisers, under the contract, shall be payable.

14  EXHIBITORS’ CONDUCT. Exhibitors, their staff and representatives shall be expected to conduct themselves with propriety. Soliciting, bill-posting and distribution or display of any promotional or other material by the exhibitor outside the licensed area (i.e. the space reserved under this agreement) is strictly prohibited. The organisers reserve the right at their absolute discretion to remove from the exhibition any person or persons whom they consider to be acting improperly, contravening exhibition rules or causing unreasonable nuisance or annoyance.

15  DISPUTES. The agreement does not constitute a tenancy but a licence to exhibit, notwithstanding anything which may appear herein to the contrary. If any question or dispute arises not provided for in these rules and regulations, the organisers reserve unto themselves the right to settle such question or dispute and their decision shall be accepted by the stand holders as binding and final.

16  AMENDMENT OF RULES. The organisers reserve the right to alter, add to, or amend any of these rules and regulations. Should any question arise, whether provided for in these conditions or not, the decision of the organisers shall remain final. No alteration, addition, amendment or waiver to or of these rules shall operate to release any exhibitor from his contract.

17  STAND RESERVATION: A stand may be put on reservation only for a maximum period of 7 days from the date of confirmation.

18  STAND BOOKING. All stand bookings will be subject to availability. They will be valid only when a booking receipt is issued.

19  SPACE ONLY EXHIBITORS: Exhibitors intending to build their own bespoke stand, or wishing to include interactivity in their area, such as a cooking demo for example, must supply JP Events & Exhibitions with the relevant Risk Assessment by email or fax by 10^th January 2012. For any space only exhibitors with bespoke stands, JP Events & Exhibitions will need prior notice in order to inform the shell contractor.  Any extra panels other than standard shell supplied must be ordered directly through Hirex. Additional shell scheme will incur an extra cost to the exhibitor.
